Celebrating Thaddeus Chin’s Promotion to Associate at TMK
Posted on April 16, 2025

We are incredibly proud to announce the recent promotion of Thaddeus Chin, our Senior Electrical Engineer and Discipline Lead, to Associate. Thaddeus brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role, and we want to take this opportunity to reflect on his journey with TMK, his contributions to the industry, and the impact he continues to make through his work.
Thaddeus’ Journey with TMK
Thaddeus began his engineering career with TMK 29 years ago, joining our former Darwin office as a graduate engineer after completing his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He spent over two years in Darwin, collaborating closely with our Building Services leads to support a range of electrical engineering projects.
Following the closure of our Darwin office, Thaddeus relocated with TMK to Adelaide, where he continued with us for another nine years. During this time, he played a key role as an electrical engineer, contributing to a broad range of projects. He later ventured into new opportunities with another engineering firm, where he led the growth of their electrical and drafting teams and managed projects across various sectors and scales.
In 2024, we were thrilled to welcome Thaddeus back to TMK, where he rejoined as our Discipline Lead and Senior Electrical Engineer. Since returning, he has been instrumental in strengthening our electrical engineering capabilities while mentoring and guiding our junior and graduate engineers.
Pushing the Boundaries in Engineering
Thaddeus returned to TMK with a clear vision, to continue growing his career while taking on greater responsibilities and promoting innovation in engineering design. One of his key focuses has been the role of lighting in creating functional, comfortable spaces tailored to each client’s needs.
A prime example of his approach to smart lighting design remains in Aged Care facilities. Thaddeus has placed a strong emphasis on the impact of colour temperature and lighting design on wellbeing:
“Creating a comfortable space for the end user is always at the forefront of what we do. In aged care centres, we used white lighting in communal areas to promote alertness, and warmer tones in resident rooms to encourage rest. For transitional spaces like hallways, we blended lighting temperatures to balance comfort with functionality. This was achieved without a central control panel to maximise comfortability without the added expense.”
Thaddeus continues to encourage this kind of innovative thinking among our junior engineers, believing it is vital they understand that the pathway to a solution is not always linear.
A Career Highlight
One of Thaddeus’ standout projects was serving as the Lead Electrical Engineer for the South Australian Sports Institute with his previous firm. In this role, he oversaw the full electrical engineering scope for the Australian Centre for Sports Aerodynamics (ACSA) Wind Tunnel – an internationally renowned facility in sports aerodynamics. This project presented a unique challenge as he had to ensure the integrity of highly sensitive equipment in extreme wind conditions.
